The reason we love what we do is because we want you to feel your best and styling your beard with beard balm and oil can make a huge difference in its appearance and health -- so we are also in the biz of taking care of our customers.
Whether you are purchasing your first batch of beard oil or balm (we suggest getting them together for optimal beard health), here are some quick ways to keep your mane soft, managed, and healthy.
1. Make sure to clean your beard before adding beard oil and balm
You need a clean beard to keep a clean beard. Before even applying beard balm and oil, we need to clean and dry your beard. Beard shampoo works best to get rid of any stuff in your beard (even excess oil from your skin) and is needed to wash away any residual gunk that might buildup in your beard -- no shame, happens to us all. Make sure your beard is then dry before putting any product on to ensure it not only sticks but is absorbed into your beard as well.
2. Ensure you are choosing the right beard balm and oil
Look for beard kits and products made with natural ingredients (ahem, like us here at Beardwood!) These ingredients will help take care of your beard and provide a hold for styling, all while also keeping your beard healthy and strong. Also, if you are into a specific type of scent, you want to take that into account as well. PS. We have a few different scents for beard oil you might like.
3. Apply your chosen beard oil to your beard and skin
The main purpose of beard oil and balm is for hydration and softness of your beard as well as lightly styling the beard without weighing it down with product-- making it more manageable and less prone to wild fly away beards. You only need two or three drops of beard oil, then rub it between your palms and massage it into your beard and the skin underneath for a double win for beard and skin hydration! This will ensure that moisture is kept in.
4. Apply beard balm to your beard
Beard balm helps shape your beard so you can create any style you want with your beard. Once again you only need a small amount -- about the size of a dime, rub it between your hands, and then rub through your beard and focus on how to style and where needs the most styling control in your beard. Always end with a nice and gentle beard combing to keep everything even and smooth.
5. Make sure you are using the proper amount of product for your beard style and shape
Start small with how much beard oil and balm you use. See how your beard and skin feel after a small amount is used and change accordingly. Every beard is created differently which is why it's important for us to give you guidelines but also let you know that you know your beard better than anyone else!
6. Rinse and repeat, try different techniques for your beard care until you find a routine that works
Don't be afraid to experiment with different techniques on how you apply beard oil and balm, there is more than one way to apply them. Things such as seasonality, climate, and other factors will affect how much you need to use and how your beard will look. Once you find your routine, it will make life so much easier! It's always okay to adjust and alter your routine as your beard changes!
7. Don't forget to take care of the rest of you on top of your beard!
You are hydrating your beard and giving it all the love but don't forget to ensure the rest of your skin is also cared for. Thankfully, like we said, we are in the biz of caring for our customers here at Beardwood, so we have other products too. From smelling great with natural deodorant and keeping your lips hydrated with our lip balm, we are here to take care of the rest of you as well as your beard.
