Top Five Questions People Have About Beard Care | Our Favorite Beard Balm and Oil Questions

We're in the beard business so of course the industry is something we keep up-to-date on.

Beard care has become increasingly popular in recent years, and we are in a crowd of some many amazing beard care companies (we are a bit biased on our own) and everyone has wonderful products to take care of beards. But, we get a lot of questions from our newbie beard care friends on what even is beard balm and oil and how can they make their beards the amazing manes they have dreamt of!?

We've got some quick Q&A's for you when it comes to building the best beard kit you can think of.

1. What is the difference between beard balm and beard oil?

Let's keep this simple as every beard balm and oil includes different ingredients (check out our products and natural ingredients for example!) But the main difference is that beard oil is there to moisturize the beard and skin underneath whereas beard balm is meant to style and hold that style in place for your beard. Both take on a simple task of caring for your beard and skin and holding your signature look in place, so it's best to have both on hand for when you need to tame the mane!

2. How (the heck) do I use beard balm and beard oil?

We have another blog going over a step-by-step guide to proper beard product usage (if you want to take a look). You want to make sure your skin and beard are clean but dry when using both beard balm and oil. You will start by massage the oil into your beard and skin. Once the beard oil is in, you'll finish the look with beard balm to keep your beard styled and controlled, Voila!

3. Are beard balm and beard oil good for all beard types?

Both beard balm and oil are fine for all beard types: the secret is the amount that you use! You will want to test with a small, dime-sized amount of each and see how well you can massage and evenly coat your beard. Need a little more? No problem, it's way easier to add more beard products into your beard then take them out so add and adjust.

Here's a quick guide for beard balm and oil use:

  • **Stubble** 1-2 drops
  • **Short beard** 3-4 drops
  • **Medium beard** 4-6 drops
  • **Long beard** 6-8 drops or more as needed

4. Can beard balm and beard oil help with beard itch and dandruff?

When using beard oil and balm to moisturize and control your beard, you will see that the itch and dandruff that comes from dry skin flakes in the beard (yuck!) will begin to lessen over time. We will note that when too much product is used and not cleaned out after, you will most likely have residue so this is why we suggest trial-and-error until you have the right amount.

5. What are the key ingredients to look for in beard balm and beard oil?

While we know each beard oil and balm company may use different ingredients, you should at least be looking out for natural ingredients. For us here at Beardwood Beard Oil Co. we use ingredients like Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, and Beeswax as some of our main ingredients.

We get it, beards are important and we want you to look (and feel) your best. You didn't think you'd need to know so much about beard products but here you are, learning how to take care of your luscious mane and we are happy you are here.
